In celebration of Irish Heritage Month, the Greater Boston Stage Company in Stoneham brings us The Irish And How They Got That Way, a musical celebration of Irish heritage brimming with humor, stories and heart.
Created by Frank McCourt, author of Angela’s Ashes and Pulitzer Prize winner, the show offers a compelling history of the Irish experience in both Ireland and the United States. Drawing on music, dance poetry, comedy and personal experience, the show expresses the adversity, determination and ultimately the triumph of the Irish experience.
Directed by Dawn Simmons, with musical direction by Kirsten Salpini, The Irish And How They Got That Way runs from Thursday, March 8 through Sunday, March 25, with 17 shows, including 8 matinees.

The Irish And How they Got That Way is presented by special arrangement with the award-winning Irish Repertory Theatre Company, Inc. in New York City, where the show first premiered in 1997.
The cast features Boston favorites William Gardiner, Nile Hawver, Michael Levesque, Kirsten Salpini, Nicole Vander Laan and Ceit Zweil. Many of the actors will provide accompaniment on guitar, piano, violin and percussion.
Music is an especially important part of the show, with songs ranging from classic Irish melodies and folk ballads to World War II standards.
