Boston Irish Tourism Group Releases annual Travel & Culture Guide

Boston Irish Tourism Association
Travel & Culture Guide, Summer 2010

(Boston) — The Boston Irish Tourism Association (BITA) released its Summer 2010 Travel & Culture Guide of Irish cultural activities in Massachusetts.  The annual 24-page color magazine details upcoming festivals, concerts, dances and theatre from June to October 2010.  It lists selected Irish pubs, gift shops and cultural groups in the Bay State plus hotels and travel agencies for visitors from out-of-town.

The Guide is available for free at tourism centers across the state and at museums, hotels and cultural venues.

“Visitors looking for the very best Irish and Celtic music can find it right here in Massachusetts,” said BITA director Colette Quinlin.

Irish and Celtic festivals take place in Worcester, Hyannis, Webster, Northampton, Springfield and Boston, as well as nearby Newport RI and Loon Mountain, NH.  Outdoor venues like Cape Cod Melody Tent, Boarding House Park in Lowell, Worcester’s Hibernian Cultural Center and South Shore Music Circus in Cohasset are hosting performers like  Lunasa, Celtic Thunder, Ronan Tynan, the Saw Doctors, Natalie MacMaster and others.

The summer 2010 Travel & Culture Guide includes stories on the John F. Kennedy Library & Museum, celebrating the 50th anniversary of JFK’s 1960 campaign, and Boston’s Irish Heritage Trail, which goes back to the 18th century.   And it features travel stories on Ireland, Northern Ireland and the Canadian Maritimes, including the rich Gaelic heritage of Nova Scotia, PEI and Newfoundland.

The Boston Irish Tourism Association was formed in 2000 to promote cultural tourism year round.  It publishes three travel and culture guides each year, and created an Irish Heritage Trail (www.irishheritagetrail.com ) highlighting Irish landmarks throughout Boston and around the state.
