Boston’s Inspiring JFK Library
Since it opened in 1979, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum at Columbia Point in Dorchester has welcomed millions of visitors from around the world. They come here to be inspired by and to learn more about one of America’s most beloved presidents, Boston native John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States.
JFK Library’s newly opened exhibit, Presidential Pets, has just been extended through April 30, 2026, due to its popularity! The exhibit chronicles how presidential pets took on roles as workers, companions, trend setters, and political tools at the White House, starting with George Washington. Numerous Kennedy family pets are featured such as Pushinka the Soviet dog and Leprechaun the Connemara pony.
Set on a 10-acre facility overlooking Boston Harbor, JFK Library is one of the nation’s 16 presidential libraries administered by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).
The Library contains primary- source material on the Kennedy Administration and on the life, career, and family life of President Kennedy.
Other activities at JFK Library include the Kennedy Library Forums, Celebrate! Family Programming, the Earthshot Innovation Challenge, and the annual Profile in Courage Award which celebrates the quality of political courage that President Kennedy admired most.
Open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the JFK Library is accessible by car or public transportation. It welcomes local residents, school classes, convention groups and visitors year-round.
