Massport – Going Above and Beyond

“Going Above and Beyond” is the credo at Boston’s Logan International Airport, according to Massport CEO Rich Davey, who says this continual quest for excellence applies across all of Massport’s properties. With a revenue of over $1.25 billion, Massport’s mission is to connect Massachusetts and New England to the world and further the Commonwealth’s economic, transportation and climate goals, while also demonstrating a commitment to neighboring communities.

Worcester Regional Airport in Central Massachusetts
“I like to refer to Worcester as ‘the little airport that could,’” Davey says. “We had our best year in 34 years last year, with 235,000 passengers coming through Worcester. Our Florida service, JetBlue in particular, has done well. We just had our best April in the last 15 years with school vacation week, with a lot of people heading to Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale and Ft. Myers, for fun in the sun and Red Sox spring training. American Airlines added nonstop service to their Philadelphia connecting hub in July, so Worcester now has nonstop service to five major destinations.”
Plus, Davey adds, “Worcester Airport is super convenient, parking is cheap, TSA lines are short and you can get a beer at the concession stand for three bucks!”

Raymond L. Flynn Cruiseport in Seaport District
“We’re making a $110 million investment in the facility on two major fronts. One is to allow for ground shore power so cruise ships can plug in and power their ships,” Davey says, “and two, we’re making the facility much more welcoming and comfortable, with new restrooms, elevators and escalators.”
Massport is working closely with City officials to better manage the traffic and has expanded customer parking and shuttle services .
“That said, Cruiseport is doing exceptionally well,” Davey says. “We had almost 500,000 passengers last year, our highest ever, and next year we welcome the Norwegian Breakaway, which has 4,000 passenger capacity. Cruising is doing exceptionally well, especially during leaf-peeping season in October, which is our biggest month, and we think it will continue to grow in popularity.”

Community Partners in South Boston Seaport
As a community partner, Massport oversees a number of parks and open spaces that enhance the quality of life for local residents and visitors alike. By finding ways to support local businesses and the regional economy, Massport is making sure the waterfront serves both as an economic engine and a community destination.
“Massport has been intentional about placemaking in neighborhoods like South Boston Seaport, so offering amenities like the Boxes art installations at Boston Fish Pier and having the farmers and fish market on the weekend is pretty cool.”
Every Saturday from June 1 to November 1, the Boston Fish Pier becomes a lively hub for fresh, local, and sustainable food, as the weekly Fish & Farm Market displays local seafood purveyors alongside a vibrant mix of farm-fresh produce, meats, cheeses, breads, and specialty products.
Massport also supports the annual Boston Jazz Fest and Larry J’s BBQ Restaurant at Marine Park on D Street. The 15th Annual Boston Jazz Fest takes place August 29-30, 2025.
“Seaport is an amazing neighborhood, and we’re trying to offer amenities that bring people out to visit. The fact that Massport can add to that fabric is great,” Davey says.
