A CELTIC KICKOFF:

GAELIC STORM IN LOWELL

Boarding House Park, Lowell

The Lowell Summer Music series kicks off with a special performance by Gaelic Storm, a Celtic band renowned for its high-energy music and fusion of traditional Irish tunes and modern flair. Known for foot-stomping reels and pub anthems, the band promises an evening of infectious energy. This outdoor concert offers an ideal setting to relax under the summer sky while enjoying Lowell’s historic downtown.

A centerpiece and the newest member of Gaelic Storm is fiddler Natalya Kay, who grew up in Lowell and studied under Irish fiddler Laurel Martin. Natalya won first prize in the Lowell Fiddle and Banjo Contest and various Irish fiddle competitions and will receive a great welcome from her hometown fans!

July 4

INDEPENDENCE DAY WITH AN IRISH FLAIR

Celebrations Across the Greater Merrimack Valley

The Fourth of July celebration of Independence Day is also a testament to Irish-American contributions to the nation’s history, since the valiant Irish and Scots- Irish were on the front lines of the American Revolution. Lexington’s patriotic parades honor shared struggles for independence, while Concord’s festivities include fireworks at Emerson Field. The Town of Acton features live music followed by fireworks, while Westford and Burlington host parades, live music and dazzling fireworks displays. It’s a great day to celebrate American pride and Irish spirit!

July 25–27

LOWELL FOLK FESTIVAL

Downtown Lowell

One of the largest free folk festivals in the U.S., the Lowell Folk Festival draws more than 150,000 attendees annually. Celebrating global traditions, it highlights traditional music, dance, and crafts. Visitors can enjoy Celtic fiddlers, storytelling, and traditional fare alongside international performances. For those eager to explore Irish roots, this festival is a can’t-miss experience. Solas, one of the leading Irish traditional ensembles in America performs at this year’s Folk Festival. The award-winning quintet features multi-instrumentalist Séamus Egan, fiddle maestro Winifred Horan (pictured below), All-Ireland concertina champion and accordionist John Williams, singer and flutist Nuala Kennedy and bouzouki player and singer Alan Murray.

LOWELL IRISH FESTIVAL

Heading into fall and halfway to St. Patrick’s Day, the annual Lowell Irish Festival each September has become a beloved occasion in Merrimack Valley, drawing fans from throughout New England and beyond. Spread out across the main Auditorium stage and two outdoor stages, this family-fun celebration of culture and community features top Irish bands, step dancing and traditional foods. A beer garden has local and Irish brews on tap, while area artisans and gift shops offer authentic Irish clothing, jewelry and gifts.
