NE Free Jacks Rugby Team Win 2025 Championship

The New England Free Jacks won its third consecutive MLR (Major League Rugby) championship this weekend, defeating the Houston SaberCats at the Centreville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket, RI. More than 5,700 fans attended the match.
The Free Jacks are the first ever MLR team to win three championship titles and the first to ever go back-to-back-to-back. The feat was quickly christened as the “Three-Jack”.

According to the coverage by Tracy LaCara, “One of the most unique elements of the 2025 MLR Final was that the Free Jacks only had to travel 45 minutes south, so the team was able to make that smooth transition from Quincy to game time in Pawtucket. Because of this, New England was the favorite coming in but the SaberCats battled for the entire 80 plus minutes of play….Houston’s defense came into full force at the end of the first half, holding the Free Jacks off from potentially scoring two tries within the last two minutes. The score at halftime sat at 13-10 with the Free Jacks leading.”
Jason Snow of the Quincy Patriot Ledger reported that Free Jacks Executive Chairman Alex Magleb exclaimed, “It never gets old. We can share it with more and more people now, which is so cool. When we first started, people were like, ‘Oh, I kind of know (rugby)’ but now this is real. This was a home game for us…. to do the three-peat in a salary cap league, it’s virtually impossible in modern times. To have the experience of doing that, it’s absolutely incredible. In my life, who’s done that? Lakers, Bulls. Yankees once, I hate to say it. All of those names are legendary sports clubs. That’s crazy.”
The City of Quincy is expected to host a celebration for its home-town teach in the coming days. Stay tuned for details.
