International Visitors Meet Boston This Summer
Boston is abuzz in 2026 as the city and region prepares for one of its busiest tourist seasons in memory!
Three major events are on the horizon: FIFA World Cup Soccer matches in June and July, the 250th events celebrating American Independence on July 4th, and Sail Boston’s Tall Ships promenade on July 11-16.
Other spring events include the Boston Marathon, Red Sox season at Fenway Park and college graduations in dozens of local schools. The vibe in greater Boston will be electric!
“Every corner of the city is going to be impacted,” says Martha Sheridan executive director and CEO of Meet Boston, the city’s tourism body, who adds that the influx of visitors will help Meet Boston’s branding efforts “to make Boston a truly desirable destination for global visitation.”
Here is a quick recap of these spectacular events coming to town.

FIFA World Cup Soccer 2026
Boston is hosting a total of seven soccer matches, including five group stage matches, a Round of 32 match, and a Quarter-Final. Among the teams set to play at Gillette Stadium (renamed Boston Stadium for World Cup) in Foxborough are Haiti, Scotland, Norway, Morocco, Ghana, England, France and one other team yet to be determined. These matches take place between June 13 and June 26. The ‘Round of 32’ match takes place at Boston Stadium on June 29, and the ‘Quarter Final’ match on July 9, 2026. A FIFA Fan Fest in downtown Boston will be a primary public viewing village for fans and visitors to watch the games on giant screens and meet people from around the world in a festive, vibrant atmosphere.
America 250 Celebrations
Revolution 250 Boston, a group of historians, reenactors and cultural leaders, is spearheading America 250 celebrations across Massachusetts. Current initiatives include Knox Trail 250, reenacting Henry Knox’s heroic journey lugging 59 cannons from Fort Ticonderoga to Boston, and Dorchester Heights 250, which marks the pivotal episode in South Boston that ended the British Siege of Boston on March 17, 1776. The America 250 celebrations culminate on July 4th, when Boston (and the nation) celebrates the Declaration of Independence and the birth of the United States.
A signature Independence Day event will be the 2026 Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular, produced by Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO), and taking place on the Charles River Esplanade. Led by Maestro Keith Lockhart, the Boston Pops Spectacular features patriotic music, guest stars, and amazing fireworks to usher in the next 250 years.
Sail Boston 2026
As part of America 250 celebrations, a fleet of the world’s most magnificent international tall ships and military ships are sailing into the port of Boston as part of Sail250®.
This exciting promenade of ships entering Boston Harbor goes back to 1976, during America’s Bi-Centennial Celebration, and since then it has become a part of Boston’s maritime traditions.
Sail Boston takes place from July 11-16 throughout the Boston Seaport District, across the Boston waterfront leading to the North End, and over to the Charlestown Navy Yard and the Boston Harbor Islands. Daily events include the opening Parade of Sails on July 11, followed by a five-day Sail Boston Festival, the public boarding of ships, two fireworks displays, and a Street Parade comprised of tall ship crews and cadets.
