For three decades now, the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company has serenaded us with amazing productions of William Shakespeare’s plays, offering us artistic imagination, actor excellence and always, sincere civic engagement.

The bard himself would be pleased with the company’s celebration of ideas and language right on Boston Common, America’s first public park founded in 1634. And even more good news – these performances are free to the public.

In May, the spring season kicked off with Romeo and Juliet at the Strand Theatre in Dorchester This summer, the company presents Shakespeare’s popular play A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It runs from July 22 through August 9 at the Parkman Bandstand on Boston Common.

The Commonwealth Shakespeare Company’s own words point to the superior quality of thought and sense of purpose inherent in the organization, “We eliminate barriers – physical, economic, and cultural – to bring live theater to audiences throughout Greater Boston. We cultivate in young artists the value of community engagement and collaborate with educators to bring literature to life in the classroom.”
