The Quincy Ferry Offers a Delightful Ride across Boston Harbor


This summer we hopped on the MBTA’s Ferry Service in Marina Bay, Quincy and took a memorable trek across Boston Harbor. The boat was filled with local residents and commuters. And we met tourists from around the world who had discovered the MBTA ferry, a hidden gem for visitors seeking a special experience on their visit to Boston.

The 90 minute boat ride from Marina Bay Quincy aboard the ‘Mickey Murphy’ made stops at the Seaport District, Central Wharf next to the New England Aquarium, Logan International Airport in East Boston, Charlestown Navy Yard and Winthrop before heading back to Quincy. Passengers got off and on the ferry at each stop, with many of the new riders heading to the top of the boat to take in the startling harbor and skyline vistas on a beautiful summer afternoon.
For daily commuters, taking the ferry is the perfect way to reach downtown Boston, the Seaport District, Charlestown Navy Yard or Logan International Airport, while avoiding rush hour traffic on the highways. The service offers commuters a pleasant and relaxing way to start and end their workday.

For tourists, the MBTA Ferry Service opens up a world of natural beauty and discovery on Boston Harbor from Lynn and Winthrop north of the city to Quincy, Hingham and Hull south of the city. The seasonal service runs from spring to fall, so that visitors have an optimal experience of exploring several notable destinations.

These ferry routes serve inner harbor stops at Logan Airport, Charlestown Navy Yard, the Seaport District, Long Wharf and Central Wharf at the New England Aquarium.
The Winthrop and Quincy Ferry has been upgraded this season by doubling the number of weekday trips. To better serve ferry passengers this summer, weekday trips are divided into separate routes: the Winthrop Ferry operating directly between Winthrop and Boston and the Quincy Ferry operating directly between Quincy and Boston. On weekends, the MBTA continues to operate a combined Winthrop and Quincy Ferry route serving all destinations.
The Quincy ferry operates on weekends through October 12, and weekdays through November 26, 2025. Here is the daily schedule for Quincy Ferry.

When you are at Marina Bay, be sure to stroll the boardwalk and check out the variety of retail shops, restaurants and gift stores.
