“Irish people are really good at connecting,” says Sara Stanton, managing director and founder of Cara Group Travel in Quincy, Massachusetts. “And we like to know about people and we like to find out where you’re from.”

That in a nutshell is why Cara Group Travel has been such a success since Stanton, who is originally from Co. Mayo, launched her own company in 2012, after years of experience working in the travel and hospitality industries.

Helping American clients connect to Ireland, through heritage tours, musical trips, family reunions, sporting events, religious pilgrimages or simply sight-seeing, is what Cara Group Travel does best.

For Stanton and her six-person staff, the enterprise is certainly a business, but it is also a genuine passion and commitment to helping people who share their love of travel, to explore Ireland, Scotland and continental Europe.

“People get so overwhelmed with what’s online,” Stanton said in an interview with the Irish Echo newspaper in fall 2023.  “They don’t always know what’s real and what’s not real.  Cara’s role,” she says, “is to tie everything together, to make it flow smoothly for our customers.”

The local and person connections to greater Boston and indeed, all of New England, is a big part of Cara’s success.  In July, Cara Group Travel is offering a musical tour with Boston’s popular Irish band, Devri, that will draw local fans and music lovers. And in October, Cara is leading an inaugural group tour for members of the Irish Cultural Centre, one of the largest Irish organizations in New England.

That familiarity with her customers is what makes tours with Cara Group Travel so special.

“We know our clients. They’re not a number.  They’re real people. It is a partnership with us,” she says. “They trust us to provide something and to create something that’s unique.”

And that, in a nutshell, is what makes Cara Group Travel so unique!
