New Hampshire Celebrates John Stark Day

April 13 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm
State Capitol Building, Concord, New Hampshire, Photo, Michael Quinlin

New Hampshire Sons of the American Revolution honors legendary Revolutionary War hero and native son General John Stark.  “Known for his leadership, courage, and enduring patriotism, Stark remains a symbol of the state’s deep roots in the founding of our nation. His legacy is perhaps best captured by the state motto: “Live Free or Die” — a motto General Stark coined.  It was originally part of a longer statement:“Live free or die,for Death is not the greatest of evils.””

The ceremony features remarks from members of the New Hampshire legislature and a  reading of an official proclamation issued by Governor Kelly Ayotte. The ceremony will include the placement of a commemorative wreath at the base of the John State statue and will conclude with a traditional three-volley musket salute by the Color Guard.
