A Great Place to Meet:
Butcher Shop Market &
Mrs. Murphy's Kitchen

Looking for the perfect Irish sausage, ham or steak tip? Then make your way to Adams Village in Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood.

That’s where you’ll find the Butcher Shop Market, located at 782 Adams Street, a bustling oasis for Irish immigrants who long for the taste of home.

The shop is run by Sligo-born Alan Gibson, (pictured top left) a long-time wholesaler of Irish meats in New England. He opened the shop in 2009, and it has quickly become a destination not just for Irish and Irish-Americans but for local Bostonians and visitors who appreciate quality meats, homemade sauces, Irish products and superior customer service from butchers Mike Lewis, Gerry Donohue and Francis Mayes.

“We make our own sausages,” says Gibson. “We have 13 different varieties. We also sell ham that is cured with Irish spices. People come from all over to shop; right now they’re ordering their hams and turkeys for the holidays.”

The shop also specializes in exotic game meats, including wild boar, ostrich and buffalo, to name a few. All deli meats are gluten-free and they also offer a gluten-free breakfast sausage.

Gibson – who was named one of the top small business owners in the US by the Irish Echo newspaper – also makes his own series of marinated sauces, and stocks a variety of products imported from Ireland. The shop also offers catering at functions and private parties.

In the back of the store is a small restaurant - Mrs. Murphy’s Kitchen - which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus take-away orders. The cozy dining area is so popular on weekends that Gibson is expanding the space to include 31 seats.

The Butcher Shop Market was recently featured on the popular news show, Chronicle, on Channel Five, and it is also the rave on online sites like Yelp. And you can follow the Butcher Shop Market on facebook.
