IRISH DANCERS DESCEND ON BOSTON
Irish step dancers from around the world are coming to Boston on March 24-31, 2013 for the World Irish Dancing Championships, thanks to Massachusetts Convention Center Authority, which put in the successful bid back in 2009.
The competition occurs at the John B. Hynes Convention Center in Boston’s Back Bay, with over 7,000 dancers vying for coveted prizes in various age, group and individual categories. MCCA chief James Rooney said that his agency won the event “based on our awardwinning facilities, our top-tier service and, we admit it, being the most Irish city in America.”
South Boston State Senator Jack Hart, father of four Irish step dancing daughters, said, “I can fully appreciate the level of excitement with Boston hosting this world class competition, since young dancers from all over the globe must qualify to participate in this event.”
